WHEN: SATURDAY, APRIL 25TH FROM 0500PM TO 0700PM
WHERE: AT PIONEER SQUARE.

NO LOSAR 2009 OBSERVATION IN PORTLAND

Tibetans living in the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington area observed a somber Losar 2009 by coming out to protest against the Chinese occupation of Tibet and to remember all the Tibetan martyrs and especially those killed in the March Uprising of 2008. On the first day of Losar all gathered at 'bhoekhang' in the morning to offer prayers for the departed souls. Then they gathered at downtown Portland at Pioneer Square at 0400PM. The program started with singing of the national anthem followed by patriotic songs. The president reminded the public of the great sacrifices made by those Tibetans inside Tibet and the reason why this year's Losar has been without festivities but with prayers and demonstrations. Then everybody marched in unison carrying the Tibetan national flag and banners shouting slogans. Pamphlets for the occasion were distributed to the public and protestors were greeted with the honking of car horns through the route indicating a strong show of support for the Tibetan cause. The evening was concluded with a candle light vigil in memory of all the Tibetans who have died under the Chinese.

On the second and third day of Losar Tibetans gathered once again at Pioneer Square at 0400PM and distributed pamphlets and after the street protest, lined up carrying banners and later held a candle light vigil in memory of all those killed in Tibet. It was encouraging to see a strong Tibetan participation with youths and small kids during those three windy and cold days.

TIBETANS IN PORTLAND OBSERVE THE MARCH 14th ANNIVERSARY

RTYC Portland and Vancouver organized a daylong program to observe the anniversary of the 2008 March 14th Uprising in Tibet. It was held at Pioneer Square in downtown Portland with prayers and a day of hunger strike from 0900AM to 0600PM. Though it was a typical Portland weather with non- stop rain, Tibetans braved the weather and showed up in good number. Five tents were set up to protect the participants from the downpour and a huge Tibetan Flag adorned the front with a picture of His Holiness. Hundred butter lamps 'gyamchoe' was offered throughout the day for all the brave Tibetans who sacrificed their lives for the cause. Pamphlets were distributed to the public. Later in the evening a candle light vigil was held. The day was concluded with singing of the national anthem and and words of truth 'dentsik moenlam'.

MARCH 28TH 2009

PLEASE JOIN US TO PROTEST THIS SO CALLED "SERF EMANCIPATION DAY" ON MARCH 28TH 2009 DECLARED BY THE CHINESE COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT. THE CHINESE CLAIM TO HAVE FREED THE TIBETANS FROM SLAVERY BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT OUR COUNTRY HAS BEEN ENSLAVED BY THE CHINESE FOR THE PAST 50 YEARS. THE CHINESE HAVE FAILED TO WIN OVER THE TIBETANS AND WITH THEIR POLICY OF RUTHLESSNESS AND UTTER DIREGARD OF EVERYTHING TIBETAN, TIBETANS WILL NEVER FORGET AND GIVE UP THEIR TRUE IDENTITY. PLEASE SPARE SOME TIME FOR THIS IMPORTANT EVENT. OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN TIBET STILL CONTINUE TO GIVE UP THEIR PRECIOUS LIVES FOR OUR CAUSE. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT AS A TIBETAN YOU HAVE THE DUTY AND THE RESPONSIBILITY TO DO SOMETHING FOR YOUR COUNTRY...AT LEAST SHOW UP AND BE A PART OF THE STRUGGLE.

TIME: 4:00PM ONWARDS

Hi All,
As per earlier announcement that we are looking for the volunteers going over to B.C for Tibetan Freedom Torch Relay. So far we got only six people from Portland and expecting more people as the day get closer.

The Tibetan Freedom Torch relay was launched in Olympia in Greece on March 10, 2008. It stands for the hopes and aspiration of the Tibetan people for freedom and justice and is a symbol for reconciliation and friendship that should be core values of the Olympic movement. This torch will continue its journey to Tibet, traveling through over 50 cities and four continents. It is supposed to reach Tibetan territory at the beginning of the Olympic Games in Beijing in August 2008.

This torch has now reached at Vancouver B.C and will launch there on May 10 with grand ceremony by the Chinese embassy site. It is therefore requested as many people as possible from Portland. As we all know that RTYC is financially not in a position to rent a bus trip to B.C., we therefore decided to do the car pool this time. We will reimburse the gas cost of the cars. So please try to participate as many people as possible, as the day falls on week end - Saturday. Interested people can give your name to any of RTYC Exec. members not later than Wednesday May 6, 2008

Please RTYC exec. are requested to activate your phone tree list at your earliest.

Hello All,

Once again let me take this opportunity to thank all the participants who joined San Francisco Torch Rally Protest. I was proud to mention that there were close to hundred people from PDX who participated in Olympic Torch rally protest on April 8th and 9th, in San Francisco , which was great!!!

RTYC Portland/Seattle would also like to thank sincerely to everyone for making - April 12, 2008 Candle Light Vigil for Peace and Justice, a successful event. Over 200 people participated, and some came from as far as Ohio . We had excellent media coverage and positive feedback for the event.

With present on going situation all around the world particularly considering the situation inside Tibet , we still need to keep our spirit up and active continuously. As per our earlier pre - announcement on the Tibet Independence Torch Relay, RTYC Portland is now organizing the actual torch relay.

As per statement released from TYC Centrex, the main objective of launching this Tibet Independence Torch Relay is to highlight the historical fact that Tibet was always an Independent nation until the Chinese invasion in 1949 and to protest the 2008 Beijing Olympic torch relay through Tibet .

This torch also represents the promise of Tibetan Youth Congress to continue to struggle to regain our Independence from China and to show our solidarity with our brothers and sisters inside Tibet who are brutally suppressed and denied basic fundamental rights and echo their call for Independence .

This torch was first started in Dharamsala on March 25th, 2008 by Central Tibetan Youth Congress and expected to go across the world particularly in United States through various major RTYC chapters including Portland RTYC.

Last week, Saturday, April 12, 2008, the torch was relayed in Bay area - San Francisco around Golden Gate . It is coming here on Saturday this week and we are going to do it on Sunday, April 20, 2008. We will take the torch up in Mt. Hood and light it up there with a Sangsol ceremony and national anthem at 11.00 am. We will meet at Bhokhang at 9.00am and leave from there to Mt. Hood in car pools as many as possible. Coming back in a car relay and will end at Pioneer Court House Square, down town. We therefore encourage as many participants as possible for at the torch relay closing ceremony in downtown Pioneer Square . We also request all the Tibetans to come in rich & grand traditional dresses to show our unique cultural and traditional dress to the non Tibetan spectators and supporters. After the torch relay we will continue the Candle light vigil as usual.

Please feel free to contact any further information to any of the executive members of RTYC.

Thanking you all once again.

Dear All,

In the last few weeks we have witnessed an uprising against the Chinese authorities' repressive policies on the Tibetan plateau by all three provinces together, the likes of which we have not seen in last 2 decades. A terrifying crackdown has begun on a scale never seen before in Tibet, in the full glare of the world's attention just months before the Olympics in Beijing.

Tibetans in Diasporas all over the world are shouldering same support and solidarity to our brothers and sisters in Tibet. It is a new Turning Point in our history of 49 years of occupied country by Chinese communist party. History can never last under gun point, and there is always change in history as the mass population moves and condemns the repression. If China is civilized and pursuing with the modern world of 21st Country, as they claimed, then it is high time for China to accept the change and the reality. Chinese people in Diasporas are also time to think very careful for the people inside China by remembering the Massacre of Tian An Men Square of 1989.

Well, we will continue to pursue our goal and will always follow the non violence means as always had been. Like Tibetans in diasporas all around the world, our Tibetan living in Portland & Vancouver & Beaverton area have, nearly month, continuously been supporting the protests and rallies organized by RTYC and NWTCA turn by turn. We still have miles to go before we take rest. Please join us as always for the following upcoming events:

April 5, 2008 Saturday 8:00am at Hillsboro Liberty High School:
Democratic presidential contender U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton brings her campaign road show to Oregon on Saturday with events in Hillsboro at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at a “Solutions for America” rally at Liberty High School in Hillsboro. The event is free and open to the public. www.hillaryclinton.com/hillsboro. So RTYC is organizing our martyr's photo exhibition and silent protest with pamphlets distribution. We feel it going to be a big turnout as there is a huge public gathering. So please try to join us as many people as possible before 8:00am.

April 5, 2008 Saturday 5.30 PM to 8.00 PM at Pioneer Square Downtown Portland :
Candle Light Vigil organized by RTYC – Please try to come on the event those who are Tibetans but never show up for a single day.

April 12, 2008, RTYC Portland & Seattle is organizing the peaceful “Candle Light Vigil for Peace and Justice". It is suggested that it would be great if people can bring their rosary (prayer beads) or Prayer wheels during the Candle Light. Please try to stay back on the event after the H.H audience as we are expecting good media coverage.

Venue: Westlake Park, downtown, Seattle.
Time: 6.30p.m to 8.30p.m
Date: April 12th, 2008

Just to heads up that we are planning to host Independence Torch on April 19th, Saturday after San Francisco. We will let all know how and where, when the date gets closer. It’s going to be a big Event from RTYC part. Last but not the least, San Francisco TANK and RTYC are requesting the Tibetans in Portland & Vancouver area to join the upcoming April 8th and 9th events as many people as possible. It is an Urgent Appeal as we Tibetan protesters are getting out number by the Chinese protesters having being backed up or funded by Mainland Communist Party. Organizers said they have still 100 accommodations available for the new comers. So, please think once again, and join the protest as it being turning point in our history. It is the time and we should do it. Tibetan cause should strive by Tibetan.

Public support was evident as many passing motorists honked and waved to the protestors.

March 27, 2008

Dear All,

As we all know, the situation in Tibet is becoming extremely grave. With the state-imposed communications black-out, Tibet has strictly been sealed off from the outside world. The number of death tolls and injured people are rising day by day. In fact, the climax of prosecutions begins just after the crackdown of demonstrations across the country. House to house hunt for protestors also already started, and torturing and imprisonment without any public trial is obvious. Tibetans in exile are deeply concerned for the safety and well being of our Tibetan brothers and sisters in Tibet.

On our part, we should continue to proceed with our activities and try to bring the real situation of Tibet to the various level of international platforms, so that there can be a immediate halt of imposing martial law.

No doubt, RTYC Portland is, indeed, a very proud of our fellow Tibetans living here in Portland & Vancouver area for their genuine support in every respect. Your unwavering spirit and support make us very easy to coordinate any kind of activities towards our common goal. I know what we are doing is not even a close match to the great sacrifice, bravery and conviction shown by country men and women in Tibet, yet we should always remain positive and committed to any chain of activities that's coming up on our way. Small droplets of every positive action, when accumulated, would eventually lead to a great success.

I therefore once again urge all to get ready for the following upcoming RTYC events:

On this coming Saturday 03/28/08 at Pioneer Court House Square, we’ll have candle vigil again. The scheduled time is 05:30 PM to 08:30 PM. We will be displaying the pictures of our Martyrs who were brutally killed by PLA.

On April 8th and 9th, try to join the Freedom Torch rally & Olympic Torch protest respectively in San Francisco. RTYC San Francisco is organizing the whole events. Tibetans living in every corner of US and Canada are participating in this upcoming the grand events. Accommodation will be provided by SFO if anyone needed. We strongly urge as many participation as possible and encourage each individuals to take part by their own. The RTYC Portland is, as you all know, not at all in a position to undertake such an expensive transportation to a big group. Yet, we will definitely be coordinating the car pool list & interested participants are requested to submit your name not later than March 31. But the car pool entire expenses should ready to share among the group. There are so far 15 people who already purchased the air tickets and any further interested to take flight, then Alaska airline is found cheapest right now and is getting around $ 185/- per head. Just to heads up, price will shoot up in anytime, and therefore sooner the better always. We the executive members are also travelling by our own.

On April 12th, there will be another grand candle light vigil in Seattle organized by RTYC Portland and Seattle together. So, whoever is present there, try to stay a little late on that day. We will try to give the exact time and venue shortly in the next notice.

(Special Thanks)

RTYC’s special thanks go to all the participants and generous donors for making the B.C protest a great success. Our sincere thanks also go Mr. Tsering Chophel la and Doctor la for their huge monetary contributions.

Thanking you all once again and see you all on candle vigil on Saturday.

Find out more about this event

March 18, 2008

Hi All,

Without need of my detail explanation, the situation inside Tibet is getting worse day by day. It is absolutely not time for us to stay relaxed and watch & wait for the miracles to turn out. It is high time for us to act now. So, please join us with (RTYC) once again on this up coming Thursday protest in Salem.

We planned to do a peaceful demonstration in Salem to make a sincere appeal for The House and High Officials who ever is present there. We gonna ask them for their support in raising voice against Chinese Communist Govt.to stop turning the Land of Peace and paradise into a Bloody Hail of 21st Century.

Let kneel down right in frond of the House Building, and ask for their support to Boycott the upcoming Olympic 2008 in Beijing

Let's cry out in frond of them and ask them help us to reach our appeals to US congress so that they can do something to stop the unparalleled atrocities that Red Communist Chinese is committing on our fellow unarmed Tibetan brothers and sisters inside Tibet.

I know the it is the last minute announcement, but we have to use the every minutes to save the death inside Tibet. I am committed to do even if there is a few of us.

Those who are interested then let meet at Bhokhang at 9.00am on Thursday, March 20, 2008
